Acute Toxicology and Dose Finding Studies

Acute toxicity studies are conducted in order to understand the potential short-term adverse effects of a drug, they involve the administration of a single, or limited, dose within a 24 hour period. In assessing the impact, and measuring the lethal dose 50 (LD50), of the drug or article, acute toxicology and dose finding studies will generate valuable data that aids in establishing safe exposure levels.

Do you need help in characterizing the toxicity of your test article, and determining the appropriate dose? We can investigate its adverse effects, and provide important information regarding the LD50, and the therapeutic index of your test article.

Subchronic/Chronic Toxicology Studies

Subchronic and Chronic Toxicology studies assess whether there is a development of adverse effects as a result of long term exposure to the test article. Subchronic toxicity testing assesses the adverse effects of a substance after repeated administration, for no longer than a period of 10% of the animals average life span. Chronic toxicology studies however involve prolonged exposure to the substance, often lasting two years or more, evaluating the long-term effects and carcinogenicity of the substance.

We have a team of experts devoted to exploring the long-term effects of substances, and providing you with comprehensive data to inform important decisions about the safety of your test article.

Ocular Toxicology

Evaluating the impact of various substances on the eye is the focus of ocular toxicology studies, by studying compounds, drugs, chemicals, and material, the impact of articles on ocular health and function is assessed.

Are you interested in ocular toxicity? We have large animal capabilities and a dedicated ophthalmic team that offers tonometry (IOP) evaluation, electroretinography (ERG), enhanced microscopic evaluation, ocular histopathology, ocular and systemic tissue distribution, and more!

Carcinogenicity Studies

We offer comprehensive carcinogenicity testing that evaluates the potential of pharmaceutical compounds to induce cancer, our testing provides data on the long-term effects and potential carcinogenic properties of products and substances.

Routes of Administration

In ensuring an accurate assessment of toxicity, the method at which substances are administered in toxicology studies is continuously evaluated, particularly how the application interacts with different organs and systems, common routes of administration include:

  • Dermal
  • Intramuscular
  • Oral
  • Intravenous
  • Subcutaneous
  • Ocular
  • Inhalation

Investigative Services

We offer many services to aid in your investigation including gross examination, complete blood counts, clinical chemistries, behavior tests, tissue histopathology, and many more.

Frequently Asked Questions

General toxicology studies evaluate the toxicity of substances, providing a risk assessment of the test article before it can be able to be marketed. These studies are vital in not only safeguarding human health, but also contributes to environmental protection, guiding regulatory decisions, and aids product safety and development.
